Last day of Vacation: Muskegon and Home

Last day of vacation...It had been a great week plus of vacation and now it was time to find our way home.  We took a short detour to Muskegon to see the USS Silversides Submarine.  If you can't already tell, our vacations indulge the history geeks inside of Jason and I, and we are SLOWLY working our SNEAKY ways into Jacob (HAHAHAHA!).  It seems to be working too!  He LOVES learning about the things in history - specifically ships and guns - of course, what little boy doesn't like big things and guns.  There is a museum that documents some of the military history during WWII and outside the museum is a play area, of which he had his first taste of a real gun from a real ship.  He LOVED shooting down the 'bad guys'!

Yes, that is a REAL training torpedo that Jacob is sitting on and yes, he jumped up there himself and asked for a picture.

AGAIN, with the guns :) He spent quite a while here shooting at Zero's.

Finally, a gun on a ship! :)
"Down the Hatch!" - LITERALLY!

Jacob in one of the bunks in the torpedo room.  And yes, that IS a torpedo behind him!

The front torpedo room on the USS Silversides.

The engine room

The boys playing with the gun on the Coast Guard USS McLane - it was going through restoration when we visited, to restore it to it's former glory.

"Captain" Jacob - salute and all.

"This way daddy?"

(What he doesn't know, won't hurt him...right?)

Minus a few little obstacles, it was a WONDERFUL, relaxing trip! What a great way to spend our first family vacation together! Jacob is still talking about it so he must have had a good time! Is it too early to start planning NEXT year?
