Ahhh...Mackinac. We traveled almost 500 miles and it was so nice to see it again after almost 12 years. We arrived mid-afternoon and since we had quite a bit of time left, site-seeing was first on the list (plus, Jacob was asking to go see the bridge!). We visited Fort Michillimackinac and got to see how the British lived while encamped at the Fort.
We even got to see a musket firing, which scared Jacob a little.
As we traveled back in time at Fort Michillimackinac, Jacob helped navigate us around the Fort.
Jacob and Daddy playing "dress-up" (Jason would kill me if he knew I used those words) in an authentic British 'Red' coat and a coat they used to keep warm in the winter time.
Jason and I very rarely get our picture taken together since it's usually me behind the camera. Jacob was very insistent on wanting to take a picture, so I decided to oblige him and see what he came up with. Yes, we entrusted the multi-hundred dollar camera to a 3 year old! CRAZY...I know. But he did manage to get a shot of Jason and I (1 great shot out of 10 wasn't bad).
We were lucky to see the musket firing and got even luckier that we arrived at the right time to see the canon firing as well. They warned us that it was going to be LOUD....
...and boy was it. I even jumped a little it was so loud. It was pretty though.
After our travels to the Fort, Jacob saw the rocks down by the lake shore and just had to go down to throw a COUPLE rocks in the lake (mind you, we spent 20 minutes throwing a 'COUPLE' rocks into the lake. Needless to say, it was fun watching Jacob enjoy it!). Throwing rocks back into Lake Michigan and Huron ended up being a repetitive event throughout our vacation. Wherever there was a beach or lake shore, Jacob had to repopulate the lake with the rocks.
We stopped by downtown to eat dinner and while we were visiting the 'Visitors' center, we learned about a free boat cruise that went out under the bridge. Of course, hearing FREE, we jumped, or more literally, RAN to the ship. We arrived and found we were the LAST people in line. Thankfully we didn't sprint the entire way to the ship for nothing. We were able to board, and enjoyed 2 hours out on the waters of Lake Michigan and Huron, going back and forth under the bridge! What a beautiful site from the water.
Jason even managed to capture a BEAUTIFUL picture of the sunset that evening!
