One last trip away...Can't believe this year is already coming to a close. When did THAT happen? We made our last, annual trip to Jason's family's place in Newaygo, MI. There may not be a lot to do and no internet - and you'd be lucky to get a really good phone signal from inside - but boy does it take you back to the simplicity of life. Nothing big to worry about, the outdoors are free to roam (for the most part - don't want to go too far during hunting season!), and it is most of all....QUIET!!!! We were joined later in the week by Jason's parents and our nephew, Alex. Jacob and Alex were almost joined at the hip the entire weekend, which for us, meant not having to entertain Jacob for five days! What a relief!!
Upon arrival, I quickly cleaned up the place inside, Jason began mowing down all the weeds and Jacob...well, Jacob thought it would be fun to run around throwing sticks in daddy's path to mow over. He is ALL boy! He then quickly took to picking up large sticks and beating the trees senseless. Poor trees :(
Two days later, Jason's parents and Alex joined us and Jacob and Alex promptly took to 'helping' push the mower around.
The boys then wanted to go on a nature walk so they could pick up treasures to make a craft later (pictures are at the end)
How cute!
Looking at deer tracks :)
Saturday we ate a yummy breakfast and the guys took off to golf. Now is the perfect time to insert the fact that it was chilly and the wind was between 30 and 50 mph that day! Golf and wind...you get the picture :)
Mom, the boys and I went back to Lewis Farm Market in New Era, MI. We had a blast there last year and figured the boys would love it. Boy did they? There was a bunch of new things to do this year.
This year they had a baby zebra you could pet and feed. How often does THAT happen in a lifetime?!!!
Our camel friend was there again and he wanted to play and be fed.
And he wanted some kisses too!!!
A little birdie flew jumped a little too close to the glass plastic eyes of the pumpkin. He slid down too just like a birdie would...
The big chair was new this year.
Also new was the tractor ride around the property. Well worth it! The boys were in heaven!
Pedal carts were not as much of a challenge as my little monkey has grown just a bit since last year. Last year, daddy had to push him around the entire time because he couldn't quite get the coordination of pedaling - when he could reach the pedals - and steering at the same time. This year, not a problem!
Another new item this year was the cow roping area. Both boys had fun trying to lasso the 'cow' - which believe it or not, they were REALLY good at and Jacob even thought it would be funny to lasso Alex.
Photo op :)
Since it was so windy, and SINCE we were almost to the lake, and SINCE we heard the waves were 15-20 feet high, we took a short trip over to Lake Michigan to see the waves! The boys were a little tired if you can't tell...
The boys had a blast playing in the sand with the sticks.
Our art project made with our finds from our nature walk. We made little hedgehogs...aren't they cute!?!
Ready for a walk. we had to stop by the sign for a quick picture to compare with last year's to see how much Jacob has grown.
Last year...
Yep, this would be redneck smores.
Long story short, Jason and his dad had a competition to see who could fit the most marshmallows in their mouth without choking....needless to say, Jason won :) I'm so proud!
